DJ Godfather and Chicago Booty

Detroit is a mecca for producing great music and artists. I feel like electronic music really takes its own shape once its been passed through Detroit, and electronic music gets a certain richness after being experienced in Motor City. Ghetto Tech is a world of its own, it has its own history, its own artists, its own dance. Its 140-150 bpm dance music with a dirty edge and raw bass sounds, and its been around for a while.

Chicago Booty has been getting more and more popular recently with Busy P signing DJ Funk to his label, but Detroit is still just grinding away with underground releases and very little cross over. I can see that changing soon this stuff is perfect for mixing in with a 140 bpm dance set. The best place to search it out is at the Electrobounce website, run by DJ Godfather himself.

In a related note: Toronto artist Egyptrixx has a forthcoming release on Vicious Pop Records,
Grab the 12" and digital available July 21st featuring remixes by LVIS 1990 and DJ Godfather.

Sex Video

Montreal based club/rock music label Tremendous Records just signed Love & Electrik and the release of "Sex Video" the duo’s first single which was out yesterday exclusively on beatport (if you like the track SUPPORT THEM AND BUY THE TRACK). via Discobelle

“Love & Electrik (AKA Roxy Aiston and Kevin Mah) are like an explosion of flashing lights and glassy sound. Welcome to their universe where vintage synthesizers, vocoders & talkbox coexist with a voice that has a timeless soul. Together their music takes you to a familiar past: the groove of Nu Shooz to the dripping sex appeal of Minneapolis Funk, the dance vibes of 80’s Freestyle music to the intergalactic synths of Paul Hardcastle, the playfulness of The Jets to the smoothness of the S.O.S Band.”

Public Enemies

I can't wait for the action-thriller Public Enemies by acclaimed filmmaker Micheal Mann to hit theaters on July 1st. The movie explores the life of legendary Depression-era bank robbing gangster John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) with an award-winning cast. Dillinger was a charismatic bank robbers whose lightning raids made him the target of J. Edgar Hoover's (Billie Crudup) fledgling FBI and its top Agent, Melving Puris (Christian Bale), and a folk hero to a nation besieged by financial hardship and ready to celebrate a mythic figure.

No one could stop Dillinger. No jail could hold him. His charm and audacious jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone, from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Marian Cotillard), to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression.

But while the adventures of Dillinger's gang (later including the sociopathic Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham)) thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI. He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis, the dashing "Clark Gable of the FBI".

However, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts. Only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen (newly baptized as agents), who were real gunfighters, and orchestrating epic betrayals, from the infamous "Lady in Red" to the Chicago crime boss Frank Nitti, were Purvis and the FBI able to close in on Dillinger.

"I like baseball, movies, good clothes fast cars, and you. What else do you need to know?" - John Dillinger

Arrested Mid-hairdo

A 25-year-old Evansville man was arrested Wednesday when he stepped out of a South Side barbershop to conduct an apparent drug deal, police said.

Marcus T. Bailey, 25, was actually being sought on a parole warrant when authorities arrived at 952 Washington Avenue and found him in a car with two other people and about 21 grams of crack cocaine, said Evansville Police Department Spokesman Steve Green. Bailey was apparently having his hair braided inside when he stepped out, Green said.

Taking Too Long

A Cop pulls gun at McDonalds because order was "Taking too long"...

A Denver police officer has been suspended after allegedly brandishing his gun at a McDonald's restaurant in Aurora after his order took too long to fill.

Aurora police confirmed the CBS4 investigation saying the incident occurred May 21 at the McDonald's at 18181 East Hampden Avenue.

A spokesperson for the Aurora Police Department said they plan to present the case -- now classified as a felony menacing incident -- to the Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office Thursday for possible filing of criminal charges.

Sources familiar with the case, and the fast food worker's account of what happened, say two off-duty Denver police officers placed an order from their car in the early morning hours of May 21. But once at the drive through window, the employee said the men became agitated and angry at how long their food was taking. The men thought they were being ignored, according to contacts familiar with the worker's account. The male clerk then said one of the officer's flashed his police badge and pointed a pistol through the drive through window in a threatening manner, before driving off without paying.

Both officers are assigned to Denver International Airport although only one has been placed on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the case.

Ready For The Weekend

Calvin Harris has set the release date (August 17th) for his album Ready For The Weekend. Many of you have already heard the first single "I'm Not Alone" and some may have also seen the Coca Cola's new advertising mentioning his track "Yeah Yeah Yeah, La La La". Three other tracks, "Relax", "Worst Day" and the latest initiative, "Ready For The Weekend" have been confirmed for the album as well. The latter track was released last Friday, when Pete Tong played "RFTW" on his BBC Radio 1 show. It has also been confirmed that High Contrast, Dave Spoon and Fake Blood are to remix the forthcoming single.

Calvin Harris has this to say about the following about single:
"It’s different to the first single. It’s still happy, dancey, with more singing. The hook’s sung by a woman called Mary Pearce, who’s a diva. She’s got this great big voice and it’s like a nod to an old dance classic. I love underground dance music but I also have an extreme love of commercial dance music. But only the good stuff."

I Met You In The Forest

The video for These Are Powers song "Easy Answers" was jointly inspired by the annual Ghost Festival held every August in China and the Chinese folkloric tradition of burning joss paper after the death of a relative or loved one. Joss paper has long been burned ceremoniously as an offering to the dead, representing all of the worldly goods that spirits may desire in the afterlife, including intricately detailed miniature paper replicas of mansions, BMW convertibles, laptop computers, karaoke VCRs, and large denomination hell bank notes or ghost money. Once burned, these items are believed to join the deceased loved ones in heaven, and for lost spirits who still roam the land of the living, small paper boats and lanterns are bought and released, which signifies giving direction to these restless ancestors.

1983 Throwback

"I'm Going To Go" by Jago is a synth masterpiece. The simple yet effective bass line stands out in front as the rest of the song grows around it. It's not a terribly complex song, each piece has its moment to shine and then sort of ducks back into the arrangement. What it is for me is just a wonderful display of melody and structure that really grooves on the dance floor. I prefer the instrumental to the vocal, which I feel is less over the top Italo. The 12" recorded here was released in 1983 on Full Time Records.

DJ Dead Eye f. Tony Touch, Termanology, and Easy Money - Wild Puerto Ricans
(For the Spanish mami's)

Killer Mike f. Big Kuntry King - I’m A Fool Wit It

Bounceback - Does It Real Good
(Sippin' and that troof juice because it's just off - beat and vocals mixed all crazy, mumbled accents and hi-hat rolls clattering around all over the place. “I’m feelin futuristic, bitch.” This has lazers on it.)

A big thanks to Discobelle for this dreamy pop disco anthem "Ways To Be" by the Finnish harmonizers Villa Nah. The VN EP was just released by the legendary Finnish label Keys Of Life. The track takes you on a melodic journey through the sands of time to a place of sunbathing euphoria.

In A Parallel Universe

Canadian Cam Findlay started Parallels as a solo project, when not live drumming for Crystal Castles (who I can't get enough of) he was working on his own tracks. Thank God he did because the Parallels soundscapes are some of the most original I’ve heard, synths and melodies that weren’t crafted on this planet, driven by fierce arpeggios that sound like they were made in the astronauts seat at the moment of lift off.

Later on Cam got support from, I guess you could call it the missing link. Canadian female vocalist Holly Dodson. And with that, the Parallels we hear right here, today, was born. It was already good solo, but Holly made Parallels whole, with the addition of Joey Kehoe working the synthesizers.

Wired in parallel with another galaxy where an italo-space-disco journey awaits, the ride is electrically breathtaking. via Dödselectro and Discodust

The Parallels first 12″ EP Ultalight was released May 11th on Thisisnotanexit Records out of the UK.

Barcelona Boogie Bass

The great people at Discobelle are promoting the chaos that's about to go down at the Sonar Festival in Barcelona by giving away 2 pairs of tickets to faithful followers who might be in the city for the extravaganza (check their post for more info on that).

The city will be invaded by thousands of sun craving, alcohol/substance fueled yet surprisingly calm and friendly dance tourists from all over the world. Spanish boogie bass crew Plat Du Jour will host a spectacular off-Sonar night at Club Mondo this thursday (the 18th).

To further promote the night, here’s a funky and bass filled mix (if you start a mix with a Joker track, then we know that it’s a winner) that Plat Du Jour member K**O (you might remember his “Espanish Boogie Mixtape”) did for Fact Magazine.

FACT Mix: K**O - Bajo de Verano (Summer Bass) (zShare)

Tracklist along with full lineup + more info on the party after the jump. Track-list:

14- Moves!!! “Playaz” (Dress 2 Sweat)
15- Terror Danjah “Jelly Bean” (After Shock)
16- Snoop Dogg feat. R. Kelly “That´s That” (Geffen)

“In Barcelona the sun is shining, the beach is combed and the sexy beers are on ice… We’ve spent the winter months plotting and planning and we’re all set for the summer takeover. For those of you who haven’t already heard, this year Plat du Jour are hosting another essential off-Sonar party with a line-up so long you might not get in!

Sooo… Flying Lotus is hosting room one with ALL of his friends. His line-up is heavily under wraps. But trust us, whoever you’re thinking of (if they’re not dead or banned from Spain) is probably there.

In room two we are holding our own. Plat du Jour is playing host and the line-up is heavy heavy… Jackmaster, Mumdance, Oneman & Brackles lead the charge and it aint just Brainfeeder with a few surprises. These crews roll deep.

Charge your glasses… pDj x

Can I Get Some Kick Drums?

There is obviously a strong electronic music scene growing in Ireland. DJs and producers such as Ghostscene DJs, Schizofonics, and Mark Lam (among others) are tearing up dancefloors worldwide with their tracks and remixes. Along with excellent bangers flowing from Northern Ireland as well, here is The Presets' "Kicking And Screaming" remixed by Gunstar

Austrian electro outfit A.G. Trio released their mega hit "Electro Messiah" as you should know from all the hype...

"As a "thank you" to first extremely positive reactions and a little teaser for all who did not experience their music by now, A.G.Trio decided to give away the release "Electro Messiah" for free. "Electro Messiah" is one of the latest additions to the Trio´s live-set and brings the ironic approach in their music to a climax. The sophisticated and pumpin` backtrack is worth to give it a second listen - as the club version (nearly) without vocals" A.G. Trio

Whomp-a-Tronix

Heavy glitch-hop whompy mix from SF-based DJ FurSure with serious dubstepish sub-bass and a real overdose of ass-kicking energy. Tracklist is perfect with great glitchhop anthems - like "HTL" remix by An-ten-nae, absolutely killing "Ready2Rage" remix by Bassnectar and Jantsen, ill.gates & Meesha's "Irma Vep", Boreta's "64 Bytes" remix, Ben Samples' "Drank in my Cup" and much more. However, for me personally 2 Ninjas Dubstep Mix of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams" is the killa here. This is my peresonal top-10 pop song of all time and hearing this so skillfully refixed into a dubstep monster (while somehow keeping the "cold" mood of the original) makes my mind crawl with pleasure. via Doktor Krank

Terror Dactel

Terror Dactel the Virginia born NYC livin' electro group from the Subdrive label have remixed LMFAO’s "La La La". If you don't know who LMFAO is, GET YOUR MIND RIGHT. I suggest you stay on the look out for their Party Rock album that drops July 7th.

Back the to the remix, which actually just had it’s world-premier on a live set with VIKING and Chromeo just last weekend at New York’s Webster Hall. According to the soul behind Terror Dactel the song got a great respons from the crowd and I don’t doubt that. The song is pretty damn great! The smooth hiphop-like beats followed by the rough bassline and with the sweet original sounds of LMFAO ought to be a crowd pleaser.

LMFAO - La La La (Terror Dactel Remix)

They also sent Dödselectro one of his own tracks with the following message:

“And if you missed it, you can pick up my debut-single “DTF” exclusively on JUNO with Premium Stems! People can remix the tune and submit it until June 20th, so let the folks know to send their remixes in at Subdrive! If the label digs their remix, they’ll release it and give them a cut from the sales.”
