With backgrounds in the industry as both musicians and as tour management, Cates&dpL (Jon Cates and David Lind) have grown and developed together to push the envelope with their unique sound. Although many people would consider them newbies, Cates&dpL have been achieving success since day one. Triumphs for the duo have put them in coveted spots including #1 placement on Beatport’s Breaks Downloads, a feature on James Zabiela’s DJ Mag covermount CD, as well as a feature on the Global Underground Paris compilation – mixed by Nick Warren. These successes have only pushed the two harder.

Lazer Boom 1

Earlier this week Major Lazer, the explosive duo of Diplo and Switch released their first single, "Hold the Line". From their debut album, Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do coming your way June 16th on Downtown/Mad Decent. If that wasn't enough to wet your whistle, ML has cooked up a massive sneak peak mixtape in their alien Caribbean kitchen over at Mad Decent called "Lazer Boom 1".

"Lazer Boom 1" is basically snippets in the mix of the Guns Don't Kill People...Lazers Do, which is going to be gigantic. Featuring everyone from Vybz Kartel to Santigold to Ricky Blaze to Nina Sky, plus that ridiculous Black Flag sample, and the T-Pain autotune baby. Read more

She Loves Everybody

By now "She Loves Everybody" by Chester French, has seen way too much airtime, but I appreciate the fresh sound these guys from Boston bring to the table. They are a class act, doing there own thing, and that deserves respect in itself. Too many artists these days sound the same. Chester French, the two fellas out of Cambridge, MA have been making a name for themselves. The young dynamic duo of, D.A. Wallach and Max Drummey are signed to Pharrell’s label, Star Trak/Interscope,. Currently they are touring all over the place with Pharrell’s band, N.E.R.D and Common, among others. Chester French teamed up with globally renowned DJ, producer, innovator, Clinton Sparks, on a star-studded mixtape called, Get Familiar with Chester French: Jaques Jams Vol. 1: Endurance, free for download. Endurance is a collection of original tracks, all written, arranged, produced, and engineered by the duo.

The group has acquired a growing celebrity buzz since Love The Future was recorded, so the new Jacques Jams raises the bar, with guest artists like Diddy, Jermaine Dupri, Pharrell, Monáe, Bun B, Talib Kweli , The Clipse, Lady Gaga, and more. The mixtape is a musical masterpiece, produced very well, but you shouldn't expect anything less from guru, Clinton Sparks.


Jacques Jams, Vol. 1: Endurance is unlike a traditional mix-tape wherein a DJ chops up a bunch of new records and throws them on a CD. I am a huge Stones fan and mean no disrespect to anyone who hates that an electronic feel was mashed with The Rolling Stones. Obviously the original was much much better and will forever be a classic, but you can definitely groove to this for sure.
