1984 Throwback

Teena Marie - Lovergirl (Aired on 2-10-85)

Teena Marie (born Mary Christine Brockert on March 5, 1956) is an American Grammy Award-nominated singer–songwriter–producer. Marie, nicknamed Lady T, is a protegĂ©e of late funk legend Rick James, and is notable as one of the few successful multi-ethnic performers of R&B. She sings R&B with big, robust vocals, and plays rhythm guitar, keyboards and congas. In 1984, Marie released her biggest-selling album, Starchild. It yielded the singles "Lovergirl" and "Out on a Limb," the former of which became Marie's highest-peaking single to date on the US pop charts, peaking at #4, while peaking at #9 on the R&B charts.

Diplo Interview

"These days it's difficult to not expect the monotonous dj/producer protocol from most people: make some music, play songs that we all like, do some remixes, get them up on blogs, etc. it's easy for them to be perceived as one-dimensional, but a little digging sometimes reveals a lot of substance. I personally think that diplo is a prime example of this phenomenon," via Discodust.

Get Down Down

Many thanks to the Disco Dust crew for posting these tracks by Blatta & Inesha. The Italian duo who reimagine the 90"s mixing thumping, spacey swhirls, full of energy and no doubt are on HEAVY rotation. They have remixed Boltan's "Laughing Through My Teeth" and Telepopmusik's "Ghost Girl". On both tracks they tickle their electro feather all over producing full on club bangers that get everybody moving to the grooving.

More Crystal for Your Method

Just in time for the release of The Crystal Method's new album Divided By Night (out today), we're bringing you a slick new exclusive from the album. "Slipstream," in which Grandaddy frontman Jason Lytle lent his vocals, is echoing, sun-flecked electronica, as appropriate for burning rubber on an empty freeway as it is for close-up body slides on the dance floor.

FYI: The rest of the TCM album is just as sonically impressive, featuring collaborations with Matisyahu, New Order Bassist Peter Hook, and indie princess Emily Haines of Metric," via RCRD LBL. And here is the rest of it. Read more

All Up On It

I can't get enough of the smooth sounds of the Aussie songstress Lenka's remixes these days. Today, thanks to mostly via Electric Zoo, here are some more to wet your whistle. She has gained huge success with her first single 'The Show' reaching the number 1 spot on the US iTunes Store. Her second single 'Trouble Is A Friend', was originally picked up by Plant Music for an all out ecstatic remix package but unfortunately is no longer getting a release.
But fear not as the lovely folks at Plant have decided to distribute the remixes via us bloggers, to you for free, so here's a chunky dub from Dubsided's Nadastrom. The beat is as catchy as swine flu (not so funny), built on a bed of chunky round bass and congos. Horns flare adding to the dub roots then some slightly crusty synth work keeps you moving. Also a more funky take from her fellow Aussie Paul Mac. There yet more killer mixes, coming from French/New Yorker Japanster , bringing a distorted side chain vibe on his mix.

Victoria's Secret BioFit 7 Bra

I think Little Boots has a lot going on besides her music. Obviously Victoria Secret does as well, because her song "Meddle" was featured on their sizzling commercial for the BioFit 7 Bra which aired last night.

Zero Gets RACed Up

The original song "Zero' by the NYC rockers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, has been remixed by Erol Ekan , MSTRKRFT, and N.A.S.A., among others. However the folks at RCRDLBL think, "that "Zero", had yet to find a producer who understood that the best part of the song is the hook, and that it might actually be a good idea to include it in the remix." I could not agree more with them.

The Remix Artists Collective or better known as RAC, "understand such things, and their late arrival to the party puts Karen front and center, gliding over some added synth arpeggios like a phoenix born from leather."
